A road-marking tape or strip is disclosed and has a base strip for application to a roadway surface. series of elements which protrude from the base strip are located therealong with light emitting diodes housed therein. A photosensitive device which is responsive to the headlights of approaching motor vehicles is provided on the strip and which, upon registration of light from headlights causes a, source of electrical energy which can either be carried on the strip itself or obtained from a remote location to render the light emitting diodes light emittive.
