Abstract From the Canadian patent

An improved mechanisim for a water heater flushing of sediment from the bottom of tank diverts inlet water through an auxiliary tube directed to the bottom of the tank. Thus when a spigot is opened at, the bottom of the tank and water is simulataneously diverted through the flush tube, sediment can efficiently be removed from the tank.
