Method for the regeneration of spent alumina-based catalysts wherein the catalyst is treated with steam at elevated temperature in order to remove at least part of the sulphur; subsequently with an oxygen-containing gas at elevated temperature in order to, burn-off carbonaceous matter and finally with a basic medium.
