This method of electric welding metal band ends together comprises a fusion cycle with the introduction of inert gas a cooling cycle with the introduction of cooling air and an, annealing cycle. The method is carried out in a fusion head having grippers to manipulate the band ends and a control, system for the grippers inert gas, cooling air, welding and, annealing currents and timing functions.
