A machine felt, particularly felt for papermaking machines has a multi-ply support material extending over its entire length. The individual plies may be knit and at least one, of the belts of material overlaps itself forming two complete plies. In an intermediate segment of the belt there are folded edges that are joined together by coupling elements.
