A solid titanium-containing catalyst component is prepared by reacting a magnesium compound of the formula Mg4(OR)6(R'OH)10X, wherein-X is at least one counter ion and has a total charge of -2 and R and R' which may be the, same or different, are alkyl groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms with a halogen compound of tetravalent titanium and an electron donor. The solid catalyst component possesses excellent morphology and can be used to prepare olefin polymers with high productivity and selectivity.
