An information recording apparatus records information into a recording medium such as an optical card having a plurality of information recording tracks and generates directory information to manage the information recorded on the card. A controller allows several directories to be recorded onto a single information recording track. When the controller records an additional directory, it controls the recording position of the directory on the basis of the number of directories recorded in one track.
