The cam-actuated brake of the present invention comprises a multiple-piece support plate (14 32) secured, together by anchor pins (24) each anchor pin (24) extend-, ing through an associated enlarged opening (38) in an end of a brake shoe (10, 12) and having a shoulder (37) disposed axially adjacent a groove (35) in the pin. Reinforcement plates (50) shaped complementary with the ends of the brake shoes (10, 12) are welded thereto in order to substantially increase the contact area at the end (39) of each brake shoe (10, 12) engaged by the cam end (43) the, head or end (43) of the cam actuator being substantially diamond shaped.
