An ion exchange process for removal of fluoride and phosphorus-type contaminants from acidic process waste waters. Waste water is contacted with a strong base ion exchange resin to load SiF62- onto the resin. The resin can be regenerated with a compound which strips the SiF62- from the resin to form a water-soluble salt. Phosphate ions can be removed from the waste waters after removal of the fluoride containing ions.
