The present invention relates to a process and apparatus for preparing binder-free hot briquettes for smelting purposes consisting of iron-containing pyrophoric finely divided solids. Before briquetting, the finely divided solids are blown-through by means of a rising oxidising heated gas flow and held in a fluidized bed. During this process the gas flow is controlled in such a way that the temperature of the finely divided solids is increased to about 450 to 650°C by oxidation of at least part of the metallic iron. Subsequently the solids, are briquetted in a hot condition. Sensible heat is added to the fluidized bed from the outside until oxidation of part of the metallic iron starts, and …

Why it's free to use

  • Granted December 3, 1991. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended December 3, 2008.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
