Abstract From the Canadian patent

Apparatus for intermittently removing impurities from the periphery of a calender roll includes a rotary cleaning implement in the form of a brush or several felt discs and having an axial length in the range of 5-10 cm. The cleaning implement is reciprocable longitudinally of the roll along a suitable guide and can be driven back and forth by a motor so as to remove impurities which are detected by a mobile monitoring device. The latter can be mounted in or on a frame for the cleaning implement or is movable along the roll independently of the cleaning implement.
