The invention is concerned with a novel polymeric metal coating composition comprising (A) about 5 to 30% by weight of blocked urethane prepolymer, (B) about 2 to 25% by weight of at least one organic solvent-soluble phenolic resin, (C) about 3 to 18% by weight of a halogenated resin selected from the group consisting of halogenated rubber halogenated polyolefins and halogenated vinyl halide polymers and (D) inert solvent in an amount sufficient to provide an adhesive primer having a solids content in the range of about 10 to 70%, the weight percent of components (A) (B), and (C) being based on the combined weights of components (A), (B), (C) and (D).
