An impulse ink jet apparatus (FIG. 4) comprising a plurality of side-by-side chambers (32 FIG. 5) extending along a line slanted (angle "A") with respect to a direction of scanning. Each of the chambers include a plurality of orifices (24) arranged along a line extending substantially transverse (e.g. vertical) to the scanning direction and means are provided (transducers 44) for ejecting a plurality of droplets from the orifices of each chamber.
