The drive mechanism for a rotating part in particular a vehicle axle, possesses at least one digital-mechanical drive comprising an active wedge and means, which as determined by their design or optionally can be powered by various forms of energy, and which act directly or via energy storage reservoirs to produce impulses which are proportional to the linear or angular displacement of the drive. One such drive mechanism is used in muscle-powered vehicles or in stationary mechanisms.
