Abstract From the Canadian patent

A sampling device for use with an open necked container capable of holding a fluid material com-, prises a hollow support member insertable into the container through the open necked portion thereof. The support member comprises a main body portion of a smaller diameter than the open neck of the container; a first end portion extends from the main body portion and is open to the ambient atmosphere through the open neck portion of the container. In one embodiment elongated ribbed members extend from the main body portion and define a second end portion. The ribbed members form a generally rigid support structure.
