Abstract From the Canadian patent

Porous, hollow silica-rich fibers with good alkaline tolerance are produced from hollow glass fibers of an alkali metal borosilicate glass having one or more oxides of a metal of Group IV of the Periodic Table in an amount of about 1 to about 20 weight percent of the glass composition. The hollow porous silica-rich fibers are produced by acid leaching where the hollow glass fibers have greater than 25 weight percent extractable components, less than 25 weight percent extractable components but a wall thickness of less than 15 microns or less than 25, weight percent extractable components and a fiber diameter of less than 25 microns. In addition, heat treating can be used for hollow glass …

Why it's free to use

  • Granted October 15, 1991. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended October 15, 2008.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
