A mandrel used in a packaging machine being in a tubular shape and provided with a cooling chamber at one end so as to cool a plain plate which is positioned at the top of the mandrel and contacts the heated, infolded and compressed bottom of a tubular package carton blank. Four projections are formed on the outer surface of the mandrel so as to contact each corner of the tubular package carton blank to leave it open.
