There is a metallic gasket comprising: a compensating plate having a combustion chamber hole and a folded edge which is formed by folding back the edge on the side of this hole; an intermediate plate laminated onto the compensating plate; and an elastic metal base plate having a bead which is laminated onto at least one of the compensating and intermediate plates. This gasket is further provided with a compensating portion having a predetermined thickness consisting of the compensating plate and the edges of the intermediate plate and base plate.
