An automated photograph slide storage and retrieval system adapted for use with photograph slides having a magnetic stripe with information characteristic of the slide encoded thereon. The system includes a storage and retrieval device and a terminal. The storage and retrieval device includes a plurality of magazines in which the photograph slides are stored at indexed locations a pick, mechanism for retrieving selected photograph slides from the magazines, a read head, and a computer for controlling the magazines and pick mechanism.
