The invention relates to a fish culturing method and a sac-fry pond for practising the method. The sac-fry pond is irradiated by long wavelength infrared rays from above the water surface in the pond and from the bottom of the pond to promote growth of fry in water of a relatively low temperature and without substantially raising the temperature of water. The invention overcomes growth problems which would otherwise occur in cold water.
