The present invention is concerned with a system for quantifying colour, which enables physical and chemical parameters, being sensed by chromatic modulators to be measured unambiguously and with high precision. The system comprises at least two discrete colour detectors which have respective response characteristics such that the output signals X, Y ... of the detectors correspond respectively to X=? P(.lambda.)?(.lambda.)d.lambda. Y = ? P(.lambda.)?(.lambda.)d.lambda. where, P(.lambda.) is the spectral power distribution at wavelength .lambda. and ?(.lambda.), ?(.lambda.) are colour matching functions corresponding to the respective response characteristics of the detectors. The system …

Why it's free to use
- Granted August 20, 1991. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended August 20, 2008.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
