A device and method for testing bottle-shaped containers employ a piston and cylinder arrangement comprising two pistons which are operable to effect simultaneous or successive tests for different properties on one of the containers while the container and the cylinders of the arrangement remain in an unchanging test position. The two pistons are coaxially arranged in respective cylindrical chambers within a common cylinder and are operatively connected by a piston rod. The stroke lengths of the piston are unequal.
