A steam generator is provided for steam baths e.g. steam, cubicles. The steam generator includes a column-shaped housing. An inlet is provided in the housing for entry of ambient air to the housing. An electrically-heatable water bath is situated in the housing for boiling water therein. A ventilator is provided for causing ambient air to enter the housing via an inlet for delivering the air to the water bath and, in use, for pushing air into the water bath. Means are provided for heating the water bath, such means for heating being sized to bring water, when in the bath during operation of the generator, to a temperature near the water boiling temperature.
