Abstract From the Canadian patent

A motor vehicle has a power roof which can either rotate between a first open position and a closed position or translate between a second open position and the closed position. An electric motor for opening and closing the roof operates from a battery of the vehicle and is connected to the battery by a circuit which can be closed by either of two switches. When one of these switches is closed while the roof is in its closed position, the motor opens the roof by rotation. Closing of this same switch when the roof is translated from the closed position causes the motor to translate the roof towards the closed position.
