Abstract From the Canadian patent

Dioxolanes thio analogs thereof, and derivatives of these materials useful as additives in lubricants and fuels are described. Methods for reducing fuel consumption in internal combustion engines employing the lubricating compositions are described. The additives found to be useful are compounds of the formula:, (I), wherein each X is independently oxygen or sulfur and the substituents R1-R6 are each independently a member of the group consisting of, A) hydrogen, B) hydrocarbyl C) , D) R7-O-C(O)-, and, E) , where R7 is hydrocarbyl and each R8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
