Abstract From the Canadian patent

Process for preparing .alpha.-olefins CH2=C(R)CH2CH2R R being, C1-30-alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl by dimerizing .alpha.-olefins, CH2=C(R)H at -60 to +280 °C, with a catalyst comprising a) a metallocene (cyclopentadienyl)2MY2, M being Zr or Hf and Y being H halogen, C1-5-alkyl or C6-20-aryl, and b) an alumoxane using an, atom ratio Al to M from 1 to 100.
