An assemblage of hydroxyl apatite particles is disclosed which is formed of particles of relatively small and uniform particle size. The median particle size is from 1 to 10 µm, and at least 90% of the particles in the assemblage have a particle size of not more than 25 µm. The assemblage may be used as a packing in a liquid chromatography column.
