In a recording system operable in response to a sequence of image signals to record a sequence of recording signals on a main image recording medium efficient coding is carried out by the use of parameters which are adaptively changed from one to another through a parameter controller acting as a man-machine interactive device. The image signals are repeatedly given to the recording system to be subjected to the efficient coding with reference to a sequence of predictive value signals V(i).
