The invention relates to a wind driven turbine which, includes a rotor comprising a plurality of spaced apart vanes. The rotor is adapted to rotate about the vertical axis of an elongate short which can transmit power to a prime mover or power take off. Each vane for the rotor is formed with a substantially concave elongate trailing or reverse face. Wind deflection means are provided, such as to direct wind through a, venturi, onto and along the concave trailing face of one or more vanes, as said one more vanes rotate downwind away from said venturi.
