This invention relates to use of compounds of the formula, (I), wherein R represents a C2-5 alkyl C2-5 alkenyl, or C2-5 alkynyl group, and X represents a hydrogen atom, a C2-8 alkylcarbonyl, carbamoyl benzoyl, chloromethylcarbonyl or methoxycarbonyl group, or -PO3H2, and agriculturally acceptable salts thereof in promoting the growth of plants.
