An improved clamp for nonmetallic rope has a plug formed with an annular collar at one end and a plurality of tapered segments formed integrally with the collar and extending outwardly therefrom. The tapered segments are separated by axially extending slots. The plug has an axial bore defined by a serrated cylindrical surface to increase the gripping effect on a rope telescopically inserted into the bore. The plug is telescopically inserted into the tapered bore of an outer sleeve which compresses the tapered segments of the plug against the rope.
