Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention is concerned with new galactose derivatives having the formula:, wherein R1 is benzyl or R and R2 are hydrogen or benzyl when R1 is benzyl other-, wise R and R2 are hydrogen, acetyl or benzyl R3 and, R4 are hydrogen or R3 together with R or R4 form isopropylidene, R5 is benzyl or allyl and R6 is hydrogen acetyl or benzyl. These new compounds are useful intermediates for the synthesis of gangliosides.
