Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention provides a mass spectrometer (10) for the analysis of a sample dissolved in a fluid and, in particular a spectrometer for the analysis of high molecular weight compounds in the eluent of a liquid chromatograph. The fluid to be analyzed is at least partly vaporized and sprayed into the cathode dark space (45) of a glow discharge (46). Ions characteristic of the sample are extracted from the discharge and subsequently mass analyzed. Conveniently, spraying into the cathode dark space (45) is achieved by making the cathode electrode of the discharge comprise the spraying means (38) through which the fluid is sprayed. Little fragmentation of the high mass ions is caused by the …

Why it's free to use

  • Granted May 15, 1990. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended May 15, 2007.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
