Abstract From the Canadian patent

A steroid having the formula: or a 1,2-dehydro derivative thereof, wherein R1 is alkyl mono-, di- or trifluoroalkyl, R6-?-O-(CH2)? aryl or alkylthioalkyl, wherein, R6 is alkyl or aryl and m is 1,2 3 or 4;, R3 is carbonyl or .beta.-hydroxymethylene: R4 is hydrogen or halogen;, R5 is hydrogen methyl or fluorine; and, R7, R8 and R9 are each independently hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon, atoms: which is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of related steroids having the formula: and the 1,2-dehydro derivatives thereof which are themselves useful as therapeutic agents because of their anti-inflammatory activity.
