Abstract From the Canadian patent

The use of a material of empirical composition MgO(CO2)b(H2O)c, where b is any value in the range 0.5 to 1.1 and c is any value in the range 0 to 2 and, which have an amorphous content of at least 75% by weight, as a filler and/or a fire retardant for a solid or fluid matrix, a solid or fluid matrix (in particular a plastics matrix) containing such a material as dispersed particles, the materials in defined particulate morphologies, some of the materials per se and a process for their preparation.
