Abstract From the Canadian patent

In the present invention there is provided a high density alumina zirconia ceramic body the composition of which comprises greater than 60 mole % and less than 99 mole % .alpha.-alumina; greater than 1 mole % and less than 40 mole % zirconia containing more than 65% of tetragonal phase; and transition metal oxide(s); the atomic ratio of the transition metal(s) to the combination of aluminium and zirconium being from 0.01% to 1%. This ceramic body is very strong, very tough and very hard so that it can be used for mechanical members, abrasion resistant materials cutting tools and the like. Why it's free to use

  • Granted September 5, 1989. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended September 5, 2006.
