Abstract of the Disclosure, One or more position sensitive neutron detectors in a borehole logging tool provide for making dual-porosity dual-spaced neutron porosity logs with fewer detectors and a more compact tool by separately, detecting both thermal and epithermal neutrons in a single detector. The position sensitivity also provides for determining, with a single neutron detector particular, neutron characteristic lengths in the earth formations being logged.
