Submicron sized silicon carbide powders having dispersed therein minor values of carbon and boron may be formed into complex shaped green bodies by conventional ceramic techniques such as slip casting. The green bodies are sintered in an inert atmosphere, preferably nitrogen at a pressure, not greater than atmospheric to a density of at least 85% theoretical. Articles such as thin walled tubing and gas turbine blades are now readily formable.
