A lineman's safety strap comprises an outer strap connected to the lineman's body belt and extending around the far face of a pole to be climbed, and an inner strap extending loosely between end portions of the outer strap across the near face of the pole. The outer strap has inwardy and downwardly directed teeth which in the, event of a fall, bite into the pole the inner, strap bearing against the opposite face of the pole and cooperating with the toothed outer strap to support the lineman. Prior art safety straps which have an inner belt, tightly encircle the pole thus inhibiting climbing ability and causing inferior anchorage characteristics.
