In order to be able to transmit information in a simple manner from a ground station, in the vicinity of the track to a rail vehicle, use is made of a series of transceivers which are arranged longitudinally of the track and which when a rail vehicle equipped with interrogator travels over them, cooperate with the interrogator individually and sequentially to provide individual elements of a code group. The individual transceivers comprise an oscillatory circuit which is tuned to the frequency of the interrogator and draws its total energy requirements required for transmission from the transmitting power of the interrogator.
