Abstract From the Canadian patent

A magneto-optic memory device comprises a recording medium deposited (for example, by sputtering) on a substrate, a transparent dielectric film formed over the recording medium, and, preferably, a reflecting film deposited on the transparent dielectric film. This arrangement inhibits oxidation of the recording medium and stabilizes the coercive force characteristics and information recording characteristics of the recording medium.
