Abstract From the Canadian patent

10 -, ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION, "A METHOD OF AND APPARATUS FOR TAPPING A FURNACE CONTAINING A MELT TO BE TAPPED", The invention relates to a method of and apparatus for tapping a furnace (1) containing a melt to be tapped, e.g. silicon prepared by the reduction of technical quality silicon dioxide with carbon. The furnace (1) has a tapping pipe (5) which is made of graphite and is electrically heated, so that material contained in the tapping pipe (5) is converted into the liquid phase and the melt can thus run out of the furnace (1) through the tapping pipe (5). Contamination of the melt is thus avoided.

Why it's free to use

  • Granted July 22, 1986. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended July 22, 2003.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
