The invention relates to a method for the in-register feeding of sheets into a sheet-processing machine. The front edges of the sheets which are conveyed over the feed table are aligned with the aid of front lays. The sheet which is up against the front lays is conveyed into its desired lateral position and is aligned there without the aid of stops. Two side aligning devices grip the sheet in its front corner regions and during, side alignment, cover distances which are preferably different. This provides the possibility of tautening the front edge of the sheet during the side aligning operation.
