Polymerizable monomeric carbamates are disclosed. Polymers comprising recurring units from such carbamates undergo .beta.-elimination in an alkaline environment and are useful in diffusion control layers in diffusion transfer photographic products. These monomers have the formula in which R is hydrogen, halogen or lower alkyl; R1 is alkylene typically ethylene; and Z is a moiety capable of undergoing a .beta.-elimination reaction under alkaline conditions for example, the group -CH2CH2SO2CH3.

Why it's free to use
- Granted June 17, 1986. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended June 17, 2003.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
