The present invention is concerned with the treatment of freshly produced open pored phenolic resin foams in a high frequency field. This treatment makes possible a very quick removal of the blowing agent remaining in the pores as, well as of the formaldehyde which has been retained. The treatment replaces the time consuming aeration of the phenolic resin foam which was hitherto necessary in order to achieve a good rate of water absorption and capacity for water absorption. After their treatment the phenolic resin, foams treated according to the invention show important good properties for their use directly as flower holding foams.
