A method which can be used in the preparation for the processing of flatfish relates to the aligning and exactly positioned further guiding of the same up to a processing station. In this method the flatfish is positioned by catching behind the edge of one of its gill covers resp. shoulder girdle arcs with regard to those anatomic features and also aligned with regard to the position of its longitudinal axis by being pushed under a holding down element adapted to its cross-section. From this position the flatfish can be taken in a defined manner and brought into the processing position retaining the alignment.
