Abstract, A vapor-phase axial deposition system for fabricating a lightguide soot boule. The system is comprised of a short cylindrical housing having end plates affixed thereto. A starting member is radially directed into the central portion of the housing and a torch is activated to direct a stream of glassy soot thereat. The member is simultaneously rotated and withdrawn from the housing as a cylindrical, porous, soot boule is formed on the end thereof. The housing having a substantially twodimensional character eliminates secondary gas flow within the housing resulting in enhanced deposition rates and repeatability.

Why it's free to use
- Granted March 4, 1986. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended March 4, 2003.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
