Abstract of the Disclosure, A variable spacing format control method and apparatus are described for providing a variable data character format that can be used, for example for, printing or display purposes. A plurality of cells each including a character therein, are stored in a character generator, and settable means are provided for altering the vertical and horizontal cell dimensions as, well as the number of characters per line thus per-, mitting the selection of a desired one of several different available formats.
