A process for electrowinning massive zinc at a temperature between about ambient and about 75°C and at a cathodic ampere efficiency in excess of about 85% in a driven single-compartment cell comprising a zinc cathode electrode and a spaced porous hydrophobic hydrogen anode electrode. The process comprises providing the cell with a common electrolyte contacting both the electrodes the, electrolyte being a purified aqueous solution of zinc sulfate and free sulfuric acid, the solution being doped with an organic additive capable of sustaining the ampere efficiency throughout the electrolysis adjusting the, solution to contain a sufficient concentration of zinc as, zinc sulfate, to enable …

Why it's free to use
- Granted December 17, 1985. A Canadian patent filed before October 1, 1989 lasted 17 years from grant, so its term ended December 17, 2002.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
