A mattress or similar article includes springs housed in ribbon-shaped members. which form a series of pockets for receiving the springs and are closed at each end to secure the springs in the pockets. Several ribbonshaped members are placed side-by-side and two ribbonshaped flexible layers are connected to opposite sides of the members and glued. to said members to join them together.
